Patch notes v0.38.0

A big release, with one subject towering over the rest: all four tanks go back through the workshop. Warrior and Druid threat climbs sharply, the Warspirit shaman becomes a genuine tank instead of a stand-in, and the Faithwarden paladin — far ahead until now — comes back down. Bruin Form also picks up two abilities it has always been missing. Elsewhere: Chronomancy gets its level-20 ranks back, Grix the Tunnelking goes from a 3-hour respawn to 15–30 minutes, a ranked arena loss finally pays something, and night is readable again.

01All four tanks go back through the workshop

This is the heart of the release. For a long time, the same pack held by four different tanks gave four very different results — and the Paladin always won. This pass pulls everyone together: Warrior threat climbs hard, Paladin threat comes down, Druid and Shaman come up.

Who gains, who loses Balance

Every tank's passive threat was retuned: Warrior +30% → +80%, Druid +20% → +45%, Shaman ×2 → ×2.75, Paladin +50% → +40%. The Paladin also loses half of its passive Holy-damage threat bonus.

Bruin Form gets two abilities back New

Baleful Roar taunts every enemy within 10 yards at once. Savage Mending, the only heal the bear can cast, becomes genuinely reachable: it existed in the game but nothing granted it.

Less armor, far more health Druid

  • Bruin Form: armor +130% → +110%, but max health +15% → +30%.
  • Overall the bear takes roughly the same beating — what changes is the identity: it goes back to being the tank with the biggest raw health pool rather than the one leaning on armor.
  • Bonecrush and Craven Roar now generate threat proportional to damage dealt (×2.5), not just a flat amount.

Warspirit becomes a real tank Shaman

  • Rockbiter Weapon now grants +40% armor (up from 30) and +20% Stamina.
  • Damage taken −15% instead of −10%, and above all immunity to critical strikes from creatures — the life insurance a tank has to have.
  • Threat ×2.75 instead of ×2.
  • The stated goal: being able to tank heroic Nythraxis without getting one-shot.

The Warrior takes the lead back Warrior

  • Passive threat +30% → +80%: the single biggest move in the release.
  • Armor Shear: flat threat 100 → 120 (and 130 → 160 at rank 2).
  • Shieldcrack no longer pays a fixed amount: its threat grows with your damage (×3.5 plus 110). In other words, your gear finally counts toward holding aggro.

And outside the tank subject

Chronomancy gets its level-20 ranks Fix

At level 20, Temporal Mend, Temporal Barrier and Temporal Echo were still stuck on their level-15 rank. The missing rank finally exists — and it hits hard.

Thuggery comes down Rogue

  • The Combat rogue's spec bonuses are cut hard: attack power +55% → +20%, melee damage +36% → +16%.
  • Measured on a full epic loadout: about 203 DPS, against 186 for Knifework and 179 for Skulduggery.
  • Thuggery therefore stays the rogue's number-one damage spec — but by a sensible margin instead of a chasm.

Pets can crit a tank again PvP fix

  • A committed tank (Protection, or a Druid in Bruin Form) is immune to critical strikes… from hostile creatures only.
  • Before, the rule also covered player pets, which travel the same code path: in PvP, a tank was therefore immune to crits from your demon or your wolf.
  • That is fixed — a player and their pet are back on the same footing.

02Grix stops keeping you waiting

A named elite almost nobody ran into, and two maps that finally tell the truth.

3 hours → 15 to 30 minutes Creature

Grix the Tunnelking is a level 7 elite. On a fixed 3-hour respawn, most players crossed his zone without ever seeing him.

Maps show the real floor plan New

  • Rift and Delve maps used to draw a generic shape.
  • They now render the actually authored plan: rooms, corridors and their proportions match what you walk through.
  • Markers (chests, NPCs, objectives) received real artwork, with a visible state: ready, on cooldown, or tool missing.

The dummy stays put Fix

  • Abilities that pull a target toward you (Oath Chain, Abyssal Chain) dragged the training dummy off its marker.
  • A dummy is a fixed world fixture: it no longer moves, whatever pull is used on it.
  • Ordinary crowd control (root, stun, polymorph) still lands on it, as before.

03The world only shows you what concerns you

Two substantive changes: other people's quest objects disappear from your view, and night stops being either a black wall or a dimmed day.

No more useless sparkles New

  • Quest objects you collect (sparkling crates, sigils, caches) only show up if you are on the quest — active or ready to turn in.
  • The server already refused the pickup off-quest: those objects were pure frustrating clutter, a shiny you walk to for nothing.
  • Objects you merely interact with — bells, huts, wardstones — stay visible: they are genuine scenery in their own right.

Night is readable again Rendering

A full day goes from 20 to 45 minutes. And night lighting is split into two separate knobs: the one that lets you see where you are walking, and the moonlight that carries the mood.

The map for everyone Accessibility

  • A screen-reader summary groups crowded markers instead of reading them out one by one.
  • On a phone in landscape, the map and its legend sit side by side instead of stacking.
  • Every map control keeps at least 40 px of touch area, whatever interface scale you picked.
  • When markers overlap, the quest glyph wins over service and navigation markers.

04Losing in arena finally pays something

Until now, a lost ranked match paid nothing at all. And a new public sanction appears, deliberately without the slightest effect on combat.

A third of a win's award PvP

  • A ranked arena loss now pays one third of a win's Honor, rounded.
  • In 1v1: 25 Honor for the winner, 8 for the loser. In 2v2: 50 against 17, and every member of the losing team gets their share.
  • A draw (time out) pays the loss award to both sides.
  • A win by forfeit (opponent disconnect) still pays no Honor — but the rating and the win counter do move.

A mark for cheaters New

A sanction that is public, undispellable, and completely without effect on your stats. It only counts down while you are playing — logging out does not run it out.

What does not change Unchanged

  • No queue, composition or arena rating rule is modified.
  • Battleground and Fiesta Honor awards do not move.
  • The Accept / Decline prompt fixed in v0.37.1 still works.

05The World Market, the desktop app, and the rest

The biggest chunk of this release by volume, even if it shows the least: buying and selling, the desktop app, and a solid run of stutters removed.

One price per item Market

A toggle collapses the list down to the cheapest listing of each item. No more thirty rows of the same consumable to find the right one.

See the details

Desktop app New

  • Discord shows your zone and current activity, if you want it to.
  • New display modes: borderless or windowed, on top of fullscreen.
  • The window remembers its size, position and display for the next launch.
  • Native notifications, rate-limited so they do not drown you.
  • Gamepad plugged in: the display no longer sleeps while you play.
  • A rescue launch flag lets you start without GPU acceleration when a driver misbehaves.

Fewer stutters Performance

  • The game now holds a constant number of lights on screen: every change forced a recompile of every visible material, a 100 to 200 ms freeze each time.
  • The first-cast freeze in the Nythraxis arena is gone: effects are prepared before you need them.
  • The store catalogue no longer loads during login.
  • Minimized window: the game draws nothing at all instead of working away into the void.
