Patch notes v0.38.1

One hotfix, two bugs — both inherited from the big v0.38.0 that shipped the same morning. The one you could see: when you turned with the keyboard, your character slid off screen centre. Standing still, nothing looked wrong; turning, the camera aimed one frame late, worth about 3° — and more if your game was running slowly. The second was invisible in play, but explains why this release exists at all: v0.38.0 could not be installed on the servers. No combat value, no item, no data changes.

01The camera keeps you centred while you turn

If things have felt like they were "sliding" while turning since this morning, it was not your screen or your mouse: it was a real bug, introduced by v0.38.0, and it is fixed.

What was happening Fixed

Standing still, everything was fine. But the moment you turned with A or D, the camera aimed from where it had been on the previous frame — so your character drifted sideways instead of staying centred.

Exactly how much The scale

  • Character turn speed is 180° per second. At 60 frames per second, one frame of lag is therefore 3° of error.
  • That is not much on a frozen screenshot — but it was constant for as long as you kept turning, which is exactly what produced the sliding feel.
  • The slower your game ran, the worse it got: at 30 frames per second each frame carries twice the turn, so twice the error.
  • The good news: the error did not accumulate. It stayed constant, and cleared itself the moment you stopped turning.

Why this release exists Behind the scenes

The second bug was invisible in play, for a simple reason: v0.38.0 could not be installed on the servers. It had to be republished immediately.

02And nothing else

This is a hotfix in the strict sense. Everything that landed the same morning with v0.38.0 stays exactly as it was.

Nothing moves in the game Scope

  • No combat value: no spell, no talent, no mastery, no set.
  • No item, no creature, no quest, no zone.
  • No data migration: nothing to redo on your character.
  • All 21 locales are unchanged — not one string modified.

v0.38.0 still stands Reminder

  • The four-tank rebalance, Baleful Roar and Savage Mending on the bear: all in place.
  • Chronomancy's level-20 ranks, the Thuggery cut, Honor for arena losses: same.
  • It is all laid out on the v0.38.0 page.

So it cannot come back Guard

  • A test now pins the camera's behaviour through a turn: if a future 3D engine update breaks it again, the test fails before release.
  • A second guard automatically checks that everything the install needs is actually carried along — this was the second failure of that kind in a week.
